Our fourth All-Goucher Second Team selection for 2017-18 is men's lacrosse sophomore Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md.), who earns a spot on the All-Goucher Team for the first time in his short career at Goucher this season.
The selection to the All-Goucher Team for Woodson comes off the heels of a big campaign for Woodson and the Gophers, as the attacker went on to earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors after leading a potent Goucher offense.
Woodson, who ended the season with a Landmark Conference-best 27 assists, ended the year scoring 16 goals for a team-high point total of 43. He also had multiple assists in nine games throughout the course of the year, as he was named the Landmark's Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career on April 23 after matching a career-high with four assists in a 9-5 win at Drew.
Woodson led a Goucher offense that catapulted the Gophers back to the Landmark Conference Playoffs for the first time since 2014 this past season. Goucher also finished with double-digit victories (10-7 overall) for the first time since 2012, as they knocked off both Catholic and Scranton in the same season for the first time since 2014, as well.
Woodson joins fellow men's lacrosse teammate senior Matt Messerle (Limerick, Pa.), along with women's golf first-year Emmie Starchvick and field hockey senior Sarah Shklanko in nabbing selections on the All-Goucher Second Team.
The fifth and final member of the All-Goucher Second Team will be announced Friday at 12 p.m. For more on the All-Goucher Team, click here.
