Goucher College head men's lacrosse coach Brian Kelly has named Mike Martiello as an assistant coach for the program.
Martiello, a native of Westbury, N.Y., joins the Gophers program from a two-year stint as an assistant at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, W.Va.
There, Martiello began his tenure as a graduate assistant at the NCAA Division II member, but in the summer of 2017, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach. While at Ohio Valley, Martiello served as the offensive coordinator during the 2017 season, which saw the team improve their goals per game average significantly. Also, three attackmen under Martiello's watch went on to earn All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) honors, as well.
Martiello joined the coaching ranks after graduating from Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. in May of 2016 with a bachelors degree in business administration.
On the field at Coker, Martiello was a four-year letterwinner for the Cobras, ending his tenure at the school as the men's lacrosse programs all-time leader in points (188) and assists (84). He was a three-time South Atlantic Conference (SAC) selection, earning first team honors in 2016 and second team accolades in both 2014 and 2015.
Martiello also helped Coker capture the SAC Regular Season championship in 2015, as the team at one point during the season captured eight games in a row to receive recognition nationally.
Martiello prepped at Clarke High School in Westbury, lettering in three sports - football, basketball, and lacrosse.
The Goucher College men's lacrosse team will begin their 2019 campaign in February. In 2018, the Gophers finished the season with a 10-7 overall mark and qualified for the Landmark Conference playoffs for the first time since 2014.
