Sade Scores Four Times In Heartbreaking Goucher Men's Lacrosse Overtime Loss At Randolph-Macon
ASHLAND, Va. – Goucher College suffered a heartbreaking 10-9 loss in overtime at Randolph-Macon in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets scored six the final seven goals of the afternoon including tying the game at 9 with one second left in regulation. Randolph-Macon then scored the decisive tally with 3:07 left in overtime. The Gophers won the face off in the extra session, but a turnover gave the Yellow Jackets the ball and then the decisive tally.
Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) paced Goucher (0-2) with four goals. The junior, who has five goals on the year, notched his eighth multi-goal game of his career and his sixth contest with at least a hat trick. The four tallies match his career high set against Drew University on April 21, 2018 and against Moravian College on April 28, 2018.
Jeremy Buckler (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Josephs) added a goal and a career-best two assists while Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) tallied a goal and an assist in the loss. Buckler has notched a goal in back-to-back games for the third time in his career while posting his first multi assist game. Woodson has now registered a goal and an assist in consecutive games while he has registered a point in 19-straight contests.
The Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Woodson scored unassisted at 13:11 before the junior assisted Sade at 10:31. Sade then found the twine unassisted at 10:11 for a three-goal lead.
After Randolph-Macon scored, Jimmy Russo (Frederick, Md./St. John's Catholic) handed Goucher a 4-1 lead with his second tally of the season unassisted at 8:29.
Sade started the scoring in the second quarter unassisted at 13:47 for a 5-1 advantage. Randolph-Macon posted the final two goals of the quarter, but the Gophers held a 5-3 edge at the break.
Goucher came out of halftime by scoring three unanswered markers, Bucker set up Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) at 12:36 before Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) dished out his first collegiate assist on Sade's fourth goal of the afternoon at 4:06. Buckler capped the spurt with an unassisted tally at 1:28 for an 8-3 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets scored to close the third quarter and the first four goals of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 8 with 6:06 left.
Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) scored his first collegiate goal off a Buckler feeder with 36 seconds left to momentarily hand the Gophers a 9-8 edge. Randolph-Macon then scored with one second left in regulation and in the first minute of overtime to earn the win.
Nick Patterson (East Lansing, Mich./Damonte Ranch) was 10-for-21 in face offs and had a team-high seven ground balls. Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made 16 saves in the loss.
Goucher will make its 2019 home debut against McDaniel College on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
