BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College drops its men's lacrosse home opener 12-7 to McDaniel College in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) paced the Gophers (0-3) with two goals and an assist while Andrew Sade (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern York) and Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) each added two tallies.
Woodson notched his first multi-goal performance of the season and seventh of his career while Sade posted his second multi-goal game of the season and ninth of his career and Harnish registered his first two-marker contest and the 12th of his career.
Sade leads the team with eight goals for eight points, Woodson is second with three markers and three assists for six points and Harnish is fourth on the team with four goals for four points.
Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) notched his first collegiate goal on Wednesday after dishing out his first career assist on Saturday at Randolph-Macon.
McDaniel jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Harnish found the back of the net with 7:21 left in the first quarter.
Goucher was able to tie the tilt at 3 after consecutive goals. After the Green Terror increased its edge to 3-1, Sade scored a man up goal at 10:23 and an unassisted tally at 7:25 to square the game at 3. McDaniel scored at 6:27 before Evans twinkled the twine for the first time off a Jeremy Buckler (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Josephs) assist at 3:53 to knot the game at 4. The Green Terror scored the final three goals of the half to take a 7-4 lead at the intermission.
The Gophers scored two of the three goals in the third quarter to cut the margin to 8-6. Harnish found the twine off a Woodson feeder at 13:37 and Woodson scored on a man up opportunity with 2:41 left.
Woodson helped Goucher come within one goal on an unassisted tally at 10:34 to start the scoring in the fourth to cut the margin to 8-7, but just like the end of the first half McDaniel closed the game on a 4-0 run to seal a 12-7 decision.
Woodson led the Gophers with six ground balls and a caused turnover while Harnish added five ground balls. Mick Togo (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) paced the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made 14 saves in the loss.
Goucher returns to action at Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
