FROSTBURG, Md. – Goucher College lost to Frostburg State in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday. The game ended a stretch of four games in eight days for the team with the Gophers going 3-1 in that stretch.
Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) paced the Gophers (4-4) with three goals. The senior recorded his second-straight hat trick, third of the season and sixth of his career. Harnish ranks second on the team with 19 goals and six assists for 25 points.
Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) added a goal and two assists while Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) and Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) also found the twine on the afternoon. Evans notched his first career multiple assist game and registered a tally in his sixth game this season. The freshman has seven goals and four assists for 11 points. Heath, who had seven markers and two assists in the week, now has eight goals and four assists for 12 points. Woodson, who leads the team with 13 goals and 20 assists, registered seven goals and 15 assists in his last four games.
Frostburg State jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Evans found the twine unassisted at 8:15. Woodson scored unassisted with 5:35 left in the first quarter, but the Gophers trailed 4-2 after the first period.
Harnish cut the margin to 4-3 with a tally at 13:38 before the Bobcats posted six unanswered goals. Evans set up Heath in the final two minutes of the half to cut the margin to 10-4 going into the break.
Harnish scored unassisted in the third quarter with 6:25 and then twinkled the twine off an Evan feed with 13:36 left in the fourth in a 16-6 loss.
Mick Togo (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) paced the defense with four ground balls and one caused turnovers. Sam Gravel (Rockville, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) registered three ground balls while Lukas Glaser (Ringwood, N.J./Lakewood Regional) posted a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made nine saves in 38 minutes and Alex Shields (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) turned away six shots in the loss.
Goucher returns to action when it starts Landmark Conference play at Moravian. Game time is 1 p.m.
