Goucher Men's Lacrosse Upended At Scranton
SCRANTON, Pa. – Goucher College men's lacrosse falls to the University of Scranton on the road in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Rashaan Evans (Salisbury, Md./Parkville) and Zephan Harnish (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) paced the Gophers with two goals and one assist each. Evans got the scoring started in the game off a feed from Harnish at the 12:34 mark in the first quarter. The duo then scored back-to-back in the second frame with Evans coming off an Andrew Sade (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) assist at 11:35 and Harnish twinkling the twine for the first time on the afternoon two minutes later. The senior then scored off a pass from Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) at 6:22 in the third quarter.
Evans has now scored two goals in three-straight games and has registered a multi-point performance in five of his last six. The freshman has four multi-goal games this season and ranks third on the team with 13 goals and five assists for 18 points this season. Sade's assist was his first of the season to go along with 16 goals for 17 points to rank fourth on the squad.
Harnish notched his sixth multi-goal performance of the season and has posted at least three points in a contest for the fifth time in 2019. The senior leads the team with 23 goals and ranks second with 31 points. He has 65 goals and 24 assists for 89 points in his career, needing 11 points to reach 100 for his career.
Heath added a goal and an assist and Nigel Bowden (Rosedale, Md./Archbishop Curley) also found the twine. Along with assisting Harnish's second tally, Heath registered Goucher's second goal of the day with his tally off a connection from Evans with 56 seconds left in the first quarter. Bowden ended the scoring on the afternoon with his first collegiate tally off a pass from Mason Gorman (Boise, Idaho/Eagle) with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter.
Heath, who has scored a tally in five games this season including two hat tricks, is fifth on the team with nine goals and six assists for 15 points. Bowden, who notched his first career assist earlier this year, found the twine for the first time of his young career.
Sam Gravel (Rockville, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) paced the defense with six ground balls and a caused turnover. Gravel has posted four of more ground balls five times this season.
Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made four saves in 37:17 minutes of work while Alex Shields (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) turned away seven shots in the final 22:43 minutes.
The Royals took the game by winning the quarters by the scores of 7-2, 4-2, 8-1 and 4-1 for a 23-6 win.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at the Catholic University of America. Match time is 4 p.m.
