Goucher Men's Lacrosse Defender Sam Gravel Named To All-Landmark Conference Second Team
BALTIMORE, Md. – Sam Gravel (Rockville, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School), a member of the Goucher College men's lacrosse team, has been named to the All-Landmark Conference second team announced by the league on Tuesday. It is the sophomore's first conference honor.
Gravel paced the Gophers with 53 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers to be one of the mainstays on the Goucher defense. He ranked seventh in the circuit in ground balls and fifth in caused turnovers for season totals and fourth in ground balls (29) and third in caused turnovers (10) during the six conference contests. The sophomore had a career-high eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers against Immaculata University on April 18. He registered five or more ground balls five times with four of those five instances coming in the last six games. He also recorded 15 caused turnovers in his last four games.
Gravel now has 55 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers while appearing in 19 games including 13 starts in his two-year career.
Gravel becomes the 27th player in Goucher men's lacrosse history to earn All-Landmark Conference recognition and marks the 25 second-team honors to go along with 28 first-team selectionns for the Gophers. Head coach Brian Kelly has coached seven All-Landmark Conference first-team selections and 13 second-team honorees in his seven years at the helm. Junior Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) earned first-team honors last season to give the team two all-conference selections returning for the 2020 season.
Goucher wrapped up their 2019 campaign with a heartbreaking 14-13 overtime loss to Drew at Beldon Field on Saturday.
