A Closer Look At The 2020 Goucher Men's Lacrosse Schedule
BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College men's lacrosse 15-game schedule features eight games at Beldon Field including four of the first six contests.
The Gophers will open the season against nationally-ranked Gettysburg for the second-straight year and will start the campaign at home for the first time since 2018 on February 19. The Bullets, who opened the season with a 16-10 win against Messiah on February 15, have won all nine meetings since the series began in 2010. The two teams have been scheduled played every year since 2010, but the 2016 game was cancelled due to weather.
Randolph-Macon returns to the schedule for the 10th-straight year when the Yellow Jackets and former Goucher defensive coordinator J.B. Sheridan come to town on February 22. Sheridan helped the Gophers to a 24-9 record under Kyle Hannan including the 2010 Landmark Conference championship, which was the first Landmark Conference title in school history. Randolph-Macon has won three-straight contests to take a 10-9 edge in the series after rallying for a 10-9 overtime win last season in Ashland.
The squad will face its first road test when it travels to McDaniel on February 26. The Green Terror, who have been on the schedule every year since 2013 with the 2017 clash cancelled due to weather, lead the series 9-2 including a 12-7 win last season in Baltimore. Goucher won 5-4 two years ago in Westminster.
The Gophers return home to host Lebanon Valley on Leap Day (February 29). Goucher defeated the Flying Dutchmen 11-10 last season on the road in the first meeting between the two teams.
A renewal of an old Capital Athletic Conference rivalry will commence on March 4 at Marymount. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Baltimore program joined the Landmark Conference. The Gophers lead the series 11-10 thanks to eight-straight wins in the matchup including an 8-4 decision in 2007.
Arcadia will come to town for the first-ever meeting between the two teams in program history on March 7.
Goucher will start its only two-game road trip of the season at Neumann on March 11 for the third-straight meeting between the two teams. The Gophers lead the series 4-0 including a 13-8 win last season that saw senior Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) break the single-game program record with eight assists. The squad will then make its first trip to Delaware Valley on March 14 after defeating the Aggies 13-8 last season at Beldon Field in the inaugural tilt.
The final tune up for conference will see Southwestern from Texas come to town for a March 16 battle. It is the second time the two teams will square off after Goucher won the first contest 27-7 in 2012.
The last six games of the schedule are Landmark Conference games with the squad playing at Beldon Field every other contest.
The Gophers start conference play at home against Moravian (March 21) before heading to Elizabethtown (March 28) to end the month of March.
Goucher will play its last game at home on a weekend against Scranton (April 4) before traveling to Susquehanna (April 11). The old Capital Athletic Conference rivalry returns with the final home game against Catholic (April 15) before wrapping up the regular season at Drew (April 25).
