Woodson Nabs Second-Straight Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete Of The Week Honor
BALTIMORE, Md. – Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough), a member of the Goucher College men's lacrosse team, has been named Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week of March 2-8. It is the second-straight week he has received the honor and the fourth time in his career.
After registering six goals and four assists to earn Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week last week, Woodson had an even better week with eight goals and six assists for 14 points in a 1-1 week for the Gophers. The senior had a hand in Goucher's first six goals and seven of its first eight to post three goals and four assists and stake the Gophers out to an 8-2 lead in a 15-7 win against Marymount University on Wednesday. Woodson then posted a career-high five goals along with two assists in a loss against Arcadia University on Saturday. Once again, Woodson was out to a fast start with a hand in five of the team's first six tallies and then scored twice in a 4-0 run to give Goucher a 12-11 lead in the third quarter.
Woodson leads the team with 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points on the year. He ranks second in goals and points and third in assists in the circuit.
For his career, Woodson has 54 goals and 63 assists for 117 points. The senior can join the program's all-time career Top-5 in assists with 15 helpers.
It is the fourth time the senior has garnered the league's top offensive player of the week award after also receiving the honor for the weeks of April 16-22, 2018, March 11-17, 2019 and February 24-March 1, 2020. The last two times Woodson was honored Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./St. Andrew's School) was tabbed as the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at Neumann University. Game time is 4 p.m.
