Goucher Athletics Announces Freshman Performance Of The Year Winner
BALTIMORE, Md. – Kyle Ramos (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase), a member of the Goucher College men's lacrosse team, has been awarded the Freshman Performance of the Year after winning Goucher Athletics popular vote through the website, Facebook and Twitter.
Ramos earned 29.8 percent of the vote to edge out Isaiah Perry (West Harford, Conn./Hall) of the Gopher men's soccer team by 3.9 percent after Perry earned 22.9 percent of the vote.
Ramos was nominated for his career-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 10-9 overtime win against Neumann on March 11. His fifth ground ball was the biggest of them all after Neumann won the face-off in overtime and had two shots on goal before one of its players couldn't handle a pass and the ball went right to Ramos, who scooped up the ball to start what turned into the game-winning goal by Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough) for a 10-9 win.
Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) of the Goucher equestrian team finished third with 13.8 percent and was the third person to post over 100 votes. Meghan Kelleher (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) (women's soccer, 9.9 percent), Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) (women's volleyball, 9.8 percent) and Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) (women's tennis, 9.7 percent) were seperated by 0.2 percent to finish fourth through sixth while Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) (men's basketball), Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) (women's basketball) and Randi Marshall (La Quinta, Calif./Half Moon Bay) (women's golf) rounded out the results.
Congratulations to Kyle Ramos on his winning performance and all the freshman for making us #GopherProud while you #GopherGreatness at Goucher College. We can't wait to see what you will do in your sophomore year!
