Matt Woodson Named USILA Warrior And New Balance Division III Scholar All-American
BALTIMORE, Md. – Matt Woodson (Timonium, Md./McDonough), a member of the Goucher College men's lacrosse team, has been named a 2020 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Warrior and New Balance Division III Scholar All-American.
Along with an outstanding career on the lacrosse field, Woodson boasted a 3.70 grade point average and graduated in May with a degree in psychology. The Timonium, Md., native was selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete and was named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll all three years of eligibility. A captain on the men's lacrosse team in 2020, he also served as the Goucher College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president in his time in Baltimore.

"I have watched you work tirelessly to put yourself in a position to be the best version of yourself every day. Your relentless pursuit of perfection in the classroom, on the field, rehabbing from injuries has been inspiring! You have made Goucher College and our men's lacrosse team better through your commitment to excellence in all you do. I am so proud to know you and privileged to call you a teammate! I love you Matt!"
Woodson was on his way to another career year before COVID-19 ended his season and career. He led the team in goals (20), assists (14) and points (34) while leading the Landmark Conference in points and second in goals and fourth in assists. He was named conference offensive athlete of the week an unprecedented three-consecutive weeks. He notched a career-high five goals against Arcadia on March 7 and posted three goals and three assists in a 10-9 overtime thrilling victory against Neumann on March 11 including scoring the game-winning goal in overtime in what would be his final collegiate game.
For his career, Woodson played in 40 games including 36 starts with 57 goals and 66 assists, 123 points, 80 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Averaging over 3.0 points per game in his career, he reached 100 points in his career with a goal with 4:15 left in the first quarter against Lebanon Valley on February 29. He was named to the all-conference first team in his sophomore campaign after leading the Gophers to a postseason berth while the team was 19-21 in games that he played including 18-16 in his last 34 games and 16-14 when he registered a goal in a game. He dished out a single-game program record eight assists in a 13-8 win against Neumann on March 13, 2019.
