GETTYSBURG, Pa. - First year Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) and sophomore Theo Cook IV (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) each scored their first collegiate goals as the Goucher College men's lacrosse team suffered a 21-3 setback at No. 15 Gettysburg College at Shirk Field Wednesday afternoon.
- Gettysburg (2-0) took a 1-0 lead 40 seconds in after winning the opening faceoff.
- The Gophers (0-2) got on the board at the 11:47 mark as Temple scored on a pass from Jared Halverson (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan).
- Goucher cashed in on its first man-up situation of the game to take a 2-1 lead on a Halverson goal with 8:54 left. Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) assisted on the goal.
- The Bullets scored the final three goals of the quarter to take a 4-2 lead through 15 minutes.
- Gettysburg extended the lead to 5-2 50 seconds into the period.
- The Bullets got goals from five different scorers as it extended its lead to 13-2 at intermission.
- Two goals by Gettysburg's George Raymond and single tallies by Griffin Gallagher and Ryan Cernuto extended the Bullet lead to 17-2.
- Goucher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's) made eight saves in the quarter to extend his three-period total to 16.
- Cook scored his first collegiate goal on an assist by Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) 3:27 into the final frame.
- Gettysburg tacked on four goals in the fourth as Gopher goalies Jaden Algarin (Havre de Grace, Md./Concordia Prep) and Jack Kroninger (Mendocino, Calif.) each saw time in the quarter.
- Gettysburg held a 57-10 shot advantage and won 22 of 28 faceoffs.
- Goucher was 1-4 with the man advantage while killing off its only man-down opportunity it allowed the Bullets.
- Eddie Jancuk (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) recorded four ground balls for Goucher.
- Goucher travels to Randolph Macon on Saturday for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers' home opener is set for Wednesday, March 2 against McDaniel at Beldon Field at 7 pm.
