Eagles Fly Away From Gophers After Halftime

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Mary Washington outscored Goucher College in the third quarter 7-1 en route to a 16-4 non-conference men's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.

• Mary Washington (5-3) outshot Goucher (9-5) 9-5 in the opening 15 minutes but neither team found the back of the net.
• Goucher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made five saves, while Eagle counterpart Riley Green made one.

• UMW opened the scoring on a Cameron Walker goal 2:12 into the second quarter.
• The Eagles reeled off four goals in a span of 4:31 to take a 4-0 lead with 7:17 left before halftime.
• Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) got the Gophers on the board when he went top shelf with just over five minutes left in the half.
• The guests carried a 4-1 lead into intermission.

• Mary Washington capitalized on an early two-minute non-releasable Goucher penalty, scoring three times to take a 7-1 lead with 12:20 left in the quarter.
• Jared Halverson (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan) halted the Eagle run with a goal on an assist by Heath at the 10:41 mark.
• UMW scored four times in the final 8:06 of the quarter to take an 11-2 lead on a J.D. Nozemack goal with 10 seconds left in the frame.

• The Eagles reeled off four more goals, including a pair of man-up tallies, to extended their lead to 15-2 with 9:40 to go.
• Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored an unassisted tally for Goucher with 9:22 on the clock.
• After Mary Washington scored with 5:03 to go, Halverson closed out the scoring with a man-up tally with 3:27 remaining.  Heath notched his second assist of the afternoon.

• UMW generated a 57-20 shot advantage on the day, with nine different players recording a goal.
• Halverson posted two goals while Heath notched a goal and an assist.
• Heath has recorded multiple points in four straight games.
• Lugo finished with 18 saves before being relieved by Jaden Algarin (Havre de Grace, Md./Concordia Prep) for the final 3:26.
• Lugo and Kyle Ramos (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) each had a team-high three ground balls.
• Eddie Jancuk (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) caused three UMW turnovers on the afternoon.

• Goucher opens Landmark Conference play next Saturday, March 26, when it hosts Juniata in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field, wrapping up a five-game homestand.
