Gophers Win DIII ECAC Championship

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The No. 2 seed Goucher College Gophers traveled to face the No. 1 seed Westminster College (Pa.) Titans in the DIII Men's Lacrosse ECAC Championship match. The Gophers held the Titans scoreless in the second and third quarter to win 14-6.
- The Titans opened the scoring of the game with a goal coming just under three minutes into the contest.
- Kevin Gearhart added an unassisted goal at the 9:40 mark to tie the contest.
- With a goal from Jones, Wesminster (Pa.) reclaimed the lead before the Gophers rallied (7:11).
- With 5:56 remaining in the quarter, Jack Murdaugh finished an unassisted goal to tie the contest again.
- Milan Temple scored off a pass from Jacob Morgan give the Gophers the lead, which they never let up.
- A minute and a half later, Gianni Karam finished a pass from Murdaugh.
- Westminster (Pa.) capped the quarter with a goal with just seven seconds remaining.
- There was limited scoring in the second half, despite the 23 shots between the two teams.
- Both goals came from Karam, with Morgan and Temple adding assists to their total points in the game.
- The Gophers held the Titans scoreless throught the third, while their offense excelled.
- Temple added three goals, recording every other one. One goal went unassited, while Scott Tayman and Morgan added assists on the others.
- Karam recorded his fourth of the game at the 7:45 mark.
- Gearhart and Morgan had a part in two goals, each with a goal and an assist for the other. Gearhart's goal came at the 5:37 mark, while Morgan's goal was on the man-advantage (00:10).
- Westminster had their strongest quarter with three goals. The first came almost half way through the final quarter.
- Gearhart added two more goals, a minute apart, both from Morgan assists.
- The Titans ended the game adding two more goals in the final three minutes.
- Morgan was awarded Most Outstanding Player of the contest. This comes after a 13-point (8g, 5a) game in the semifinals, and a 7-point game (1g, 6a) today.
- Temple, Gearhart, and Karam all had multiple points in the contsest.
- Jack Smith recorded 58 minutes in net, and added 13 saves. Josh Steinmiller added two minutes in net.
- The teams were even on faceoffs (12-14), with Temple going 2-2, Jack Schiavone going 1-4, David Vucci went 2-9, and Nick Pusey going 7-9.
- Sean Nolan led the team with three caused turnovers, while Nick Gambone and DJ Barnes followed closely behind with two each.
- Pusey led the team with five groundballs.
