SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Julien Greco (Shutesbury, MA/St. George's School), a sophomore forward on Goucher's men's soccer team, was named today to the ESPN The Magazine 2007 Academic All-District II College Division Men's Soccer Team.
Greco was a second-team selection for the district which covers Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington D.C.
The team is chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. CoSIDA founded its Academic All-America program in 1952 to recognize and award the premier college scholar-athletes throughout the nation for their ability to achieve excellence on the playing field and in the classroom.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible).
Greco, who supplied the Gophers with eight goals and four assists to lead the Landmark Conference in points (20) during the regular season, currently carries a 3.90 grade point average. He is a political science and international relations major with a minor in Spanish.
