MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was named Defensive Men's Soccer Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for Sept. 19-25.
Today's announcement out of the conference office came two days after the senior goalkeeper made just the fifth start and earned the first shutout of his collegiate career. Of the eight saves Baum made in leading the Gophers past Scranton, 1-0, on Saturday, seven occured in the second half while the Royals were unleashing a total of 18 shots in an attempt to overcome their one-goal deficit.
Earlier in the week, Baum played the entire 90 minutes against Lancaster Bible, turning away six shots and surrendering only one goal as the Gophers defeated the Chargers, 2-1.
With his one-goal allowed, 14-save performance during the seven-day stretch, Baum lowered his goals-against average to 1.06 and raised his save percentage to .838.
