TOWSON, Md. — For the third time this season, Goucher entered the final 10 minutes of regulation leading an opponent, 1-0. Tonight, unlike the other two times, head coach Bryan Laut's squad finished the job and completed the shutout.
With Jeremy Hardy (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) providing the offense and freshman Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) earning the shutout in just his seventh collegiate start, the Gophers turned back Shenandoah, 1-0.
Goucher came back to knock off Rosemont in overtime on September 4 after allowing the Ravens to tie the score at 1-1 with 1:35 remaining in regulation. Four days later, the Gophers battled Penn St.-Harrisburg to a 1-1 draw when they allowed the Lions to score in the 83rd minute.
The goal Hardy scored at 28:36 in tonight's contest at Beldon Field was his second of the season. He received a pass in front of the box from Drew Afromsky (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) and chipped the ball into the corner of the net.
Hendry was tested only two times as the Hornets (3-4) were limited to five shots the entire contest. In the first half, prior to Hardy's goal, he turned away a shot by Nick Seymour; his second save was on a shot by Loudon Phillips in the 53rd minute.
The Gophers will welcome the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to Beldon Field on Saturday for a Landmark Conference contest that is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
