BALTIMORE, MD.- Goucher moves to 6-3-5 after a bitter 1-0 loss away against Washington College. This is the first time the Gophers have been prevented from scoring since the beginning of October. This is also only the third time Goucher has lost this season, the fewest since 2006. Goucher sophomore goalkeeper Dan Hendry (Lewisburg, PA) kept the team in the game with five saves, the most he’s had to make since the end of September.
Both teams seemed to balance each other out in the first half. Freshman Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, CA) found space to force the opposing Shoreman goalkeeper Josh Samuels into a fine save to the near post. After trading possession back and forth, Washington was most dangerous off of corner kicks. A half hour into the game, Goucher conceded the only goal of the encounter off of a corner. The Gophers fought back and took forced Washington’s Samuels into two more saves before the end of the half.
“We weren’t able to get into our groove… we needed to be more physical,” junior Sam Bloxam (Center Valley, PA) said after the game. “We are going to need the will to win if we’re going to beat Elizabethtown,” he continued. The Gophers hope to improve from their record of 6-3-5 and play away at Elizabethtown College on Saturday, October 15th.
