TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College men's soccer team (4-3, Landmark 0-0) returned to its winning ways on Saturday following a 3-1 victory over Shenandoah on Beldon Field.
The Gophers maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the game, specifically at the beginning. Goucher lit up the scoreboard for the first time in the 18th minute when Konrad Bulanowski (Philadelphia, Pa.) weaved his way through the defense and drilled a shot to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Goucher exposed the Shenandoah defense again in the 34th minute when senior Drew Phillips (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) placed a powerful header off the crossbar following a corner kick sent in by sophomore William Jenkins (Fairfield, Pa.).
At the end of the half, the Gophers maintained their 1-0 lead.
The Hornets answered back early in the second half when Sam Natkin finished a cross sent in by Nino Todaro from the flank. Todaro attempted to take the lead for Shenandoah only two minutes later off a head, but first-year goal keeper Hunter Opdyke (Salisbury, Md.) stalled the chance.
Gopher gained the lead when sophomore Aiden Devaney (Baltimore, Md.) ripped a laser into the upper right-hand ninety from outside the eighteen following a long run. The goal was the first in his career.
Goucher struck for the last time in the 86th minute when junior Dalen Thompson (Maple Wood, N.J.) carried the ball into the left-hand corner and lofted a shot over the keeper's outstretched arm.
Shenandoah attempted to minimize the deficit in the 87th minute when Dustin Huber launched a shot off the crossbar, but it was to no avail. Goucher took home the fourth win of the season, 3-1.
Head Coach Bryan Laut said after the game, "The guys did a good job of rebounding from our midweek game and getting a good result. We still have things to work on but I'm excited about the direction we are heading."
The Gophers remain at home on Tuesday when they play host to McDaniel College at 7 p.m. on Beldon Field.
