BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College men's soccer lost a tough match and will look back at the game as missed opportunities in a 2-1 loss against Rosemont College in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.
Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) notched his third goal in two games for the Gophers at the 51:10 mark off a Zach LaFaver (Hanover, Pa./South Western) assist. Cohen, who scored two tallies in a 3-1 win against Cairn on Wednesday, now has 23 goals and 10 assists for 56 points.
The assist by LaFaver was the second of his career and he now has two goals and two assists for six points.
Joe May (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) made two saves in the loss.
The game of soccer is about opportunities and the Gophers had plenty of chances with 13 shots in the second half and 15 in the game, but only five shots on goal on the evening.
After LaFaver's header was saved, Cohen knocked in the rebound in the 52nd minute. The Gophers had nine shots the rest of the way, but seven were missed high or wide with several that gave the Goucher faithful a huge sigh because of the great missed opportunities.
In the final minute, LaFaver and Cohen tried to duplicate the magic from earlier, but this time the Ravens netminder turned away both chances and Aidan Spoor (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) had a shot that missed high.
Goucher will hit the road for the first time this season at Washington (Md.) on Wednesday. Match time is 4 p.m.
