Another hard-fought game by the Gophers ended in disappointment, as the offensive pressure of the Coast Guard Academy was too much for the Gophers. On a rainy afternoon the Goucher Men's Soccer team competed the second time in less than 24 hours to host the United States Coast Guard Academy. While much of the game was even, the Goucher offense just could not find the back of the net enough times to keep them in the game.
The score was knotted at 1-1 at halftime which featured a first half goal by Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, MD/Fairmont Heights) assisted by Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC).
Buoyed by a big second half from Mike Duant (2 goals), Coast Guard was able to put away 3 unanswered goals. It was not without a few scares for the Bears however, as offensive pressure featuring Jeremiah Odubade (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC), Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) and Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, MD/International HS at Langley Park) kept the game up in the air until the final minutes.
The Gophers return to action Wednesday when Washington College comes to Beldon Field for a 4pm match.
