TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Catholic University, the first place team in the Landmark Conference standings, halted Goucher College's three-game win streak with a 5-0 men's soccer victory Wednesday evening at Beldon Field.
- Catholic (9-4-2, 5-0 Landmark) took a 1-0 lead at 4:41. Gordie Bernlohr's initial shot was stopped by Goucher (8-4-3, 2-2-1) goalie Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton) but Bernlohr put home the rebound.
- Sternini made another save just over a minute later.
- Jeremiah Odubade (London, England/Fairmont Heights) had a header at 7:37 snuffed out by Austin Coron.
- Domenic Caltabiano made it 2-0 just past the 17-minute mark.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) had a shot blocked in the 27th minute.
- Sternini stopped all four shots on goal he faced the rest of the half.
- Sternini recorded a save on an Andrew Lowman shot four minutes into the second half.
- Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) lifted a shot high 10 minutes in.
- Bernlohr tacked on his second goal of the game at the 64:09 mark.
- Gus Dalzell (Los Angeles, Calif/Waverly) had a shot blocked with eight minutes left.
- Catholic added two goals in the final 2:13 of the game, including a late own goal.
- Catholic held a 23-5 shot advantage and took eight corner kicks to Goucher's one.
- Sternini made eight saves, while Austin Coron turned aside one shot en route to the shutout.
