Nakhid, Dever, Mubiru, Laut Earn Landmark Men's Soccer Accolades
TOWSON, Md. - A total of four members of the Goucher College men's soccer program were honored as the Landmark Conference released its All-Conference teams on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior defender Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) was named Landmark First Team All-Conference, while senior midfielder Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) and senior defender Adrian Mubiru (Riverdale Park, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) were each Second Team selections. Goucher head coach Bryan Laut and his coaching staff were named the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time in his career.
Nakhid becomes the third Landmark First Team All-Conference selection for Goucher since the Gophers were a founding member of the conference in the 2007 season. A Second Team selection a season ago, Nakhid anchored a backline that has allowed a 1.32 team goals against average and posted six shutouts. He also leads the Gophers and ranks among the conference leaders in scoring, having recorded 10 goals and a pair of assists for 22 points. Nakhid ranks third in the Landmark Conference in goals and sixth in points.
Dever, along with Nakhid, is one of four players to start all 18 games for the Gophers thus far this season. He has totaled a goal and six assists for eight points, with his six assists tied for second in the conference.
Mubiru has appeared in and started all but one game on the backline for Goucher this season. He recorded an assist in Goucher's Landmark Conference opener with Drew, a 1-1 tie in late September.
Laut and Goucher were named Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time in his career, with the first coming in 2014. Laut and assistants Matt Poell, Drew List and Drew Phillips have guided Goucher to a 9-4-5 record and a 3-2-2 Landmark Conference mark, with the Gophers' nine victories their most since 2006. Goucher finished in third place in the conference standings, its highest-ever finish, and the Gophers' three Landmark All-Conference selections match the second-most in a single season. Goucher will also be making its first-ever ECAC Tournament appearance this weekend.
Goucher returns to action Saturday when it hosts Neumann in an ECAC Championship first round game at 11 am at Beldon Field.
