Adekanmbi, Mubiru Honored by Landmark Conference
TOWSON, Md. - Junior forward Michael Adekanmbi and senior defender Adrian Mubiru of the Goucher College men's soccer team were honored by the Landmark Conference as it released its All-Conference teams Wednesday afternoon. Adekanmbi was honored as a Second Team selection, while Mubiru was recognized for the second straight year, this time as Honorable Mention.
Adekanmbi, a transfer from CCBC Essex, has had an immediate impact in his first season with the Gophers. One of three players to start all 19 games, Adekanmbi leads Goucher in scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points. His seven goals are tied for fifth in the conference, while his eight assists are tied for second. Adekanmbi's 22 points rank fourth overall in the league.
Mubiru, who was a Second Team All-Conference selection last season, played in 17 games on the backline this season for Goucher and was in the starting lineup 16 times. He anchored a defense that has posted four shutouts and allowed two or fewer goals 16 times.
Goucher, 10-7-2 overall, reached the semifinals of the Landmark Conference tournament for the second straight year and earned its first Landmark tourney win with a 3-2 win at Elizabethtown in the opening round. The Gophers open their second straight ECAC appearance on Saturday, hosting Virginia Wesleyan in a 2 pm quarterfinal at Beldon Field.
