CARLISLE, Pa. - The Goucher College men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season Wednesday evening, surrendering three goals in the first 3:58 of the second half as it fell 5-0 to fifth-ranked Dickinson College at Miller Memorial Field.
- Dickinson (7-0) had three shots in the first 2:28 of the contest.
- The Red Devils kept up the pressure with five more shots the next 10-plus minutes, with Gopher (4-1-2) keeper Ale Sternini making a pair of saves.
- Dickinson got on the board at the 16:29 mark on a Daniel Spataro goal.
- In the 34th minute, Elliot Bezdek had a pair of shots for the Gophers.
- Jonathan Adima recorded a shot in the 38th minute.
- Dickinson had a shot go off the crossbar in the 39th minute, and took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
- Ethan Jarden scored 58 seconds into the second half to double the Red Devil lead.
- Two more goals, including a second goal by Jarden, made it 4-0 3:58 into the second half.
- The hosts added an own goal with just over 14 minutes to play.
- Domenic Arena put a shot on goal for Goucher in the 79th minute.
- Dickinson held a 31-4 shot advantage and took 12 corner kicks to the Gophers one.
- Sternini played the first 76:45 in goal for Goucher and recorded five saves.
- Edy Abarca and Amiri Adams each saw their first collegiate action in goal the rest of the way, with Abarca recording one save.
- A trio of Dickinson keepers combined for the shutout.
- Dickinson ascended to No. 5 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division III poll after defeating then-No. 3 Messiah last week.
- The Gophers travel to Widener on Saturday evening for a 7 pm contest.
