TOWSON, Md. — Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter), the only senior on Goucher's 2009-10 roster, didn't go down without a fight in the final match of his career against Scranton today.

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The point Dave Hemelt (Parkville, Md./Loch Raven) earned for his 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over Kyle Kempinsky at No. 6 singles put Goucher over the top against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy today, giving the Gophers their first Landmark Conference win of the 2009-10 season.

TOWSON, Md. — Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy) picked up his team-leading fifth singles win of the season, but he also provided Goucher with its only point today in an 8-1 loss to Lebanon Valley.

The Crusaders (5-3, 1-0 Landmark), who led 2-1 after the doubles competition, held on for a 5-4 victory.

The next match to finish was No. 4 singles and a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory there by Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy) put the Gophers ahead overall for the first time.

FREDERICK, Md. – Three freshmen were victorious in the first singles matches of their collegiate careers for Goucher today, but the Gophers needed a fourth win in singles play in order to avoid a 5-4 season-opening loss to Hood.
