TOWSON, Md. — Goucher resumed its season today by bowing to Susquehanna, 7-2, in the first Landmark Conference match of the season for both teams.
The Gophers (0-3, 0-1 Landmark), in action for the first time since they wrapped up the fall portion of their 2010-11 schedule against McDaniel back on Oct. 8, picked up one of their points at No. 1 doubles and the other one at No. 1 singles.
Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was part of both of the matches that went Goucher's way. He and David Spivey (Brooklandville, Md./Park School of Baltimore) were pitted against Michael Hickey and Mats Haaland at No. 1 doubles and were victorious 8-3.
Baum ran into Hickey again at first singles and dropped the opening set, but rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0 win.
Spivey fell to Haaland at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4.
The Crusaders (6-1, 1-0 Landmark) won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets.
