Spivey Puts Up Battle at No. 2 Singles, Suffers 7-5, 6-3 Setback
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's imposing 2010-11 schedule served up Drew today and the three-time defending Landmark Conference champions took it to head coach Michael Vann's Gophers, 9-0.
The Rangers (4-3, 1-0 Landmark) let only three games get away in doubles play as they were victorious 8-1 in all three matches. The Gophers (0-5, 0-2 Landmark) dropped all six singles matches in straight sets, but encounter at No. 2 between Drew's Alex Belfiore and David Spivey (Brooklandville, Md./Park School of Baltimore) appeared to be the most competitive as Belfiore came out on top 7-5, 6-3.
At No. 1 singles, Raul Smego recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston).
