TOWSON, Md. — Another Goucher vs. Juniata final may be looming, but for the Gophers and Eagles to meet for the Landmark Conference men's tennis title for the second year in a row, both will first need to survive in the semifinals.
Both semifinals are set for Wednesday and are scheduled to get under way at 3 p.m. For head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad, which is the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, the opponent in the semifinals will be Scranton. During the regular season, the Gophers defeated the Royals, 8-1, in a match that was moved indoors to the Bare Hills Racquet & Fitness Club due to the forecasted precipitation and slightly above-freezing temperatures.
The Eagles will resume defense of their 2015 crown when they host Catholic in Wednesday's other semifinal. The Cardinals won their only Landmark title in the sport of men's tennis in 2014.
As the No. 1 seed, Goucher, with a victory over Scranton on Wednesday, would host the winner of the other semifinal in the championship match on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
Goucher, which elevated its men's tennis program to intercollegiate status in 1988-89, is seeking its first conference title in the sport.
