Landmark's Top Academic Award Goes to Hoesman
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was recognized today as the 2016 recipient of the Landmark Conference's most exclusive academic award.
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was recognized today as the 2016 recipient of the Landmark Conference's most exclusive academic award.
Hoesman is the second student-athlete from Goucher to be chosen as a Senior Scholar Athlete during the 2015-16 academic year. The other was Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) for the sport of men's swimming and diving.
Recipients of the Senior Scholar Athlete award must carry as minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and criteria for selection includes accomplishments in all areas of college life, including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. A committee of conference officers, athletic directors and sports information directors selects one Senior Scholar Athlete per academic year for each of the 20 sports for which the Landmark Conference crowns a champion.
Hoesman, who was chosen as the Rookie of the Year in the Landmark Conference for men's tennis in 2012-13, lettered all four years playing tennis at Goucher and finished his career as the men's tennis program's all-time leader in both singles (61) and doubles (58) wins. He earned first-team All-Landmark honors for singles play in three of his four seasons and second-team accoladres the other year; he was a first-team all-conference selection for doubles all four seasons.
A mathematics major, Hoesman achieved a 3.91 cumulativa GPA through his first seven semesters at Goucher. In addition to being the 2015 recipient of the institution's Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining high standards of academic achivement and consistently demonstrating varied and admirable participation in athletics and extra-curricular activities, he made the Landmark's Spring Academic Honor Roll all three years in which he was eligible.
Since the formation of the Landmark Conference, 15 student-athletes from Goucher have earned the distinction of Senior Scholar Athlete.
