Men's Tennis Splits Double Header, Falling to SUNY Oneonta 5-4
The Goucher College men’s tennis team (7-6, Landmark 0-0) dropped the second half of a Saturday double header at home, 5-4, to SUNY Oneonta.
TOWSON, MD – The Goucher College men's tennis team (7-6, Landmark 0-0) dropped the second half of a Saturday double header at home, 5-4, to SUNY Oneonta.
Following doubles play the Gophers trailed the Red Dragons 1-2. Senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) and junior Jack Hodges (London, England) won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles for Goucher. The win helps the duo tie the Goucher College school record for team doubles wins (31). They are currently tied with 2016 teammates Joey Caracappa and Seth Hoesman.
Goucher and SUNY Oneonta split the first two flights in singles play, with sophomore Elliot Diehl (York, PA) handling his opponent, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) and senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) gave the Gophers the lead, 4-3 heading into the home stretch.
However, Goucher dropped two hard-fought flights at No. 6 and No. 1 singles. Senior Josh Goldberg (Centreville, MD) fell 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 while Hodges waged war to a 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (8-6) loss.
