Gophers Earn Decisive Win in Landmark Opener
The Goucher men’s tennis team (8-7, Landmark 1-0) opened Landmark Conference play with a decisive win over Susquehanna University, 9-0, at home on Saturday afternoon.
TOWSON, MD – The Goucher men's tennis team (8-7, Landmark 1-0) opened Landmark Conference play with a decisive win over Susquehanna University, 9-0, at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Gophers swept the River Hawks in doubles play 8-2, 8-3, 8-3, respectively. The No. 1 through No. 4 singles players dropped only four games combined to the visiting Susquehanna players, en route to the sweep.
Junior Josh Goldberg (Centreville, MD) played Nick Meale to a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. Over the course of his career, Goldberg is 10-3 during conference matches in singles play.
Fellow junior, Britton Shortle (Winter Park, FL) also dominated his opponent, Ashton Collins, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. The win is Shortle's fourth of the season and 18th overall at Goucher.
