Fujitani Hits 100 Win Milestone in Conference Showdown

TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College men's tennis team (9-8, Landmark 2-1) rebounded Sunday afternoon in Landmark play, toppling Drew University 5-4 at home.
Senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) won his 100th total match at Goucher College to seal the win for the Gophers at No. 6 singles dropping Bryce Weizer 6-4, 6-0. Overall, Fujitani has won 59 singles matches in his career – ranked second best in Goucher College history – and 41 doubles matches. He is one of three Goucher tennis players to reach the milestone.
The match began with the Gophers taking a 2-1 lead following doubles play. No. 1 and No. 3 singles took home wins for Goucher. Sophomore Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) and freshman Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) made quick work of their opponents, earning an 8-2 win.
Sophomore Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) and freshman Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) battled at No. 1 singles to earn the Gophers the lead heading into singles, 8-5.
Mullinix did not waste any time in singles play either, topping Will Morrison 6-2, 6-0. The Rangers snagged two of the next three flights, knotting the match at four all. Fujitani was able to put a bow on the match for the Gophers.
