Gophers Seal Third Seed in Landmark Conference Tournament
The Goucher College men’s tennis (13-9, Landmark 5-2) fell to Juniata College, 5-4, on the road Friday in a rematch of the 2016 Landmark Conference finals and secure the third seed in the Landmark Conference tournament to begin on Tuesday, May 2nd.
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Goucher College men's tennis (13-9, Landmark 5-2) fell to Juniata College, 5-4, on the road Friday in a rematch of the 2016 Landmark Conference finals and secure the third seed in the Landmark Conference tournament to begin on Tuesday, May 2nd.
The Gophers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) and junior Jack Hodges (London, England) had no trouble taking down their opponents for the Gophers at second doubles, 8-2.
Sophomore Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) and freshman Frankie Mullnix (Washington, D.C.) paired up at No. 3 doubles, stealing a win, 9-7, against Dan Ansel and Jason Gerber.
Hodges took a win from Dean Polisena 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) had the only win outside No. 1 singles, dealing Ansel a loss 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. The Gophers dropped the remaining flights.

The Gophers travel to Wilkes tomorrow in a non-conference matchup prior to heading into the Landmark Conference tournament on Tuesday. In that matchup they will play No. 2 seeded Scranton on the road. Goucher fell to Scranton 6-3 at home earlier this year.
