Men's Tennis Takes it to the Wire With Wilkes
The Goucher College men’s tennis team (13-10, Landmark 5-2) lost 5-4 for the second time in as many days on Saturday.
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Goucher College men's tennis team (13-10, Landmark 5-2) lost 5-4 for the second time in as many days on Saturday.
The Gophers traveled to Wilkes University, but were unable to pull out the non-conference win against the Colonels prior to heading into the Landmark Conference tournament on Tuesday.
Senior Midori Fujitan (Tokyo, Japan) and junior Jack Hodges (London, England) were able to pull out a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, over Adam Lefkandinos and Andrew Neidig. No other Goucher doubles pair was able to seal a win for the Gophers.
Hodges could not overcome the No. 9 regionally ranked player, Courtney Murphy at No. 1 singles, but he pulled out five games in the flight. Freshmen Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, heading into the set tiebreaker in both instances.
Fellow first-year player, Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.), also pulled out a win at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
The Colonels took home victories at No. 1, 4 and 6 singles to take home the match, sealing their 20th win of the year.
