Men's Tennis Dominates Both Matches at Home on Saturday
The Goucher College men’s tennis team (2-0, Landmark 0-0) knocked off a strong regional opponent in Dickinson College (0-1, Centennial 0-0) in their second match of the day on Saturday, 7-2.
TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College men's tennis team (2-0, Landmark 0-0) knocked off a strong regional opponent in Dickinson College (0-1, Centennial 0-0) in their second match of the day on Saturday, 7-2.
The Gophers jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play against the Red Devils. Goucher earned a win via the duo of Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) and Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic), 9-8. They were followed by the #3 doubles team of Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) and Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) with an 8-4 win.
Goucher went on to take five of the six singles matches as well. First-year Tetsuya Ota (Tokyo, Japan) earned his first singles win of his career, 6-2, 6-3 at #1 singles. Senior Jack Hodges (London, England) followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #2 singles.
Dumas took a win at #5 singles easily with a 6-2, 6-3 result. Diehl was taken to the third set, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, but came out with a win at #6 singles. Mullinix also battled for a win at #4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-6).
The Gophers are idle until they travel to Mary Washington on September 29th and 30th to take part in the ITA Southeast Regional tournament.
