Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Campaign Rolling Past Bridgewater
SALISBURY, Md. - The Goucher College men’s tennis team began their 2018 Spring schedule on Saturday at Salisbury, and in their first match of the season, they bested Bridgewater, 8-1, to improve to 6-0 on the year.

Goucher also played Salisbury later in the day on Saturday and fell by a score of 7-2.

In their first match of the day, the Gophers won two of the three doubles matches contested, then swept through singles to take a seven-point win over Bridgewater.
In doubles action, the sophomore tandem of Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) and Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) rolled to an 8-0 win at number two, while at number three, junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) and sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) willed their way to an 8-6 win to give Goucher a 2-1 lead entering singles.
In singles, Goucher rolled, as each of the six Gophers in the starting lineup won their matches in straight sets.
First, at number one, first-year Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) coasted to a 6-1, 6-3, win, while senior Jack Hodges (London, England) had a similar performance in a win at number two (6-3, 6-4). Herman was a 7-6, 6-3 victor at number three, while at number four, Dumas became a two-time winner in the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Finally, at number five and six, Goucher completed the sweep of singles with junior Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) taking a 6-2, 6-3 win at number five, and senior Josh Goldberg (Centreville, Md.) collecting a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number six.
Of note, with his win at number two singles, Hodges moved into fifth place all-time on Goucher's career singles victories list (47), while Goldberg moved into eighth on the same all-time list with his victory (26).

Against Salisbury, the host Seagulls opened up a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles and never looked back, taking four of the six singles matches contested to take the 7-2 win.
However, Ota ended his day with a singles victory, as he won in the number one spot yet again with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Meanwhile, Mullinix gutted out a 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 win at number four to end the day on a high note for Goucher.
The Goucher College men's tennis team is slated to return to action on Sunday, as they take on Virginia Wesleyan. First serve in Salisbury is set for 5 p.m.
