Tetsuya Ota Named Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
For the first time in his short career at Goucher College, first-year Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was named the Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on Monday, for the period ending February 25, 2018.

Ota and the Gophers opened their spring portion of their 2017-18 season this past weekend, heading to Salisbury, where they knocked off Bridgewater (8-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (9-0) while falling to the host Seagulls (7-2) to go to 7-1 on the year.
In singles action, Ota went unbeaten on the weekend, winning each of his three matches at the number one position all in straight sets.
He started off the weekend with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win over Joe Dillenbeck of Bridgewater on Saturday, which he followed up later in the day with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Colt Williamson of Salisbury. Ota finished the weekend off with another commanding win in the number one singles spot, taking a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mitchell Perry of Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.
For the year, Ota is now 7-1 in singles matches and a perfect 5-0 in dual match play. In each match, Ota has played in the number one position in the singles line-up for Goucher, as well.
Ota and the rest of the Goucher College men's tennis team return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Washington College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
