For the first time on the 2017-18 season, senior Jack Hodges (London, England) of the Goucher College men's tennis team earned Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending March 4th, the conference office announced on Monday.
For Hodges, this marks the fourth time in his career that he has been named the Landmark Conference's men's tennis Athlete of the Week, earning the honor once in each of the last three seasons for the Gophers.
On Saturday at Washington College, Hodges was a two-time winner on the day, as the Gophers knocked off the Shoreman for the first time since the 2005 season, 6-3, to push their record on the year to 8-1 overall.
In the win, Hodges teamed up with first-year Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) to coast to an 8-1 win at doubles to put Goucher on the board in the match. The win for the pair was their fifth of the season.
Then, in singles, Hodges gutted out a three-set victory in the number two spot (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) to put Goucher up, 4-1, in the match. The win was Hodges' 50th of his career at Goucher, putting him fifth all-time on the Gophers' all-time career singles victories list.
Hodges and the rest of the Goucher College men's tennis team will return to action on Friday, traveling to The College of New Jersey. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
