Men’s Tennis Finishes Off Spring Break Trip with 7-2 Win over St. Thomas
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Goucher College men’s tennis team completed a successful Spring Break trip in Hilton Head on Friday afternoon, as the Gophers coasted past St. Thomas, 7-2.

With the win, the Gophers improved to 13-3 overall, as they went 3-1 in matches on the week. St. Thomas dropped to 4-4 with the defeat.
In the victory, Goucher got off to a great start, as they opened a 3-0 lead on St. Thomas after taking all three doubles matches contested.
First in the top spot of the lineup, senior Jack Hodges (London, England) and first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) rolled to an 8-2 victory, which was followed up by an 8-4 win at number two doubles by sophomores Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.).
Goucher completed the sweep of doubles at number three, where junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) and sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) posted an 8-5 win to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead into singles play.
In singles, Goucher won two of the first three matches that finished to clinch the win. At number one, Ota rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win, and after giving up a point, Dumas clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number four.
Elsewhere, junior Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) was a three-set victor in the number six spot of singles (1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8), and Hodges became a two-time winner on the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the number two position of the line-up.
The Goucher College men's tennis team is now idle for the week, returning to action next Saturday, March 31st, as they travel to Susquehanna for their 2018 Landmark Conference opener. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
