Men’s Tennis Takes Two from Scranton, Drew in Road Landmark Conference Matches
It was a successful weekend for the Goucher College men’s tennis team, as the Gophers knocked off Scranton, 5-4, in come-from-behind fashion on Saturday night, then went to Drew and defeated the host Rangers, 7-2.

With the victories, the Gophers are now 16-3 overall and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference, winning their last four matches overall.
Goucher 5, Scranton 4 | Results
On Saturday night inside the Birchwood Tennis Club, the Gophers got off to a slow start, falling behind 3-0 entering singles after Scranton took all three doubles matches contested.
But, in singles it was a different story, as Goucher took matches in the one through five positions of the line-up to comeback and take the win.
First at number one, first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) posted a 6-2, 6-0 win, which was followed up by a straight set win at number two by senior Jack Hodges (London, England), 7-5, 6-1. At number three, sophomore Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) tied the match up with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win.
The roll continued for Goucher at number four singles, as sophomore Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 win. And, at number five, the Gophers completed the comeback with a 6-3, 6-3 win by sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.), clinching the victory for Goucher over the Royals in the process.

The Gophers faced a quick turnaround on Sunday afternoon, as they traveled east to Drew. Unlike the Scranton match, the Gophers were the ones who got off to a fast start in doubles, and never looked back.
In doubles action, Dumas and junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) rolled to an 8-0 win at number three, which was followed up by an 8-2 win at number two by Mullinix and Herman. Finally, in the top spot of the line-up, Goucher completed the doubles sweep with an 8-7 win by Ota and Hodges.
Singles action saw the Gophers once again dominate in the middle of the line-up to take the win. At number two, Hodges was a straight set (6-0, 6-2) winner, which was followed up by a 6-0, 6-3 win by Herman at number three to clinch the win for Goucher.
At number four, Dumas rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win, then at number six, senior Josh Goldberg (Centreville, Md.) finished off the weekend for Goucher with a three-set win (1-6, 7-5, 10-4).
The Goucher College men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, as they host Juniata in a Landmark Conference contest at home. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
