Men’s Tennis Begins Landmark Conference Three-Peat Quest Wednesday at Home against Susquehanna

The journey to a third straight Landmark Conference title for the Goucher College men's tennis team begins on Wednesday, as the top-seeded Gophers take on fourth-seed Susquehanna at home in the semifinals of the 2018 Landmark Conference Championship. The match begins at 4 p.m.

Admission to the event at the Goucher Tennis Courts is free, as the Gophers SAAC will be having a cookout before and during the match for all spectators in attendance.

The Gophers, who finished the year with a Landmark and program-best record of 21-4, completed the conference regular season unbeaten, are winners of eight of their last nine matches entering the playoffs.

Leading the way at the top of the line-up all season for Goucher has been first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) and senior Jack Hodges (London, England).

The tandem has teamed up to go 4-1 in Landmark play and won 12 times overall in the number one spot in the lineup. In singles, both have been equally impressive, with Ota going 14-5 at number one, and Hodges posting a 13-6 mark at number two. Hodges, who snapped the conference's career doubles (60) and singles win's in conference play (23) marks this year, is also 7-0 in Landmark Conference singles action this year.

The middle of the singles line-up for Goucher has been dominant, as well. Sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) is 20-3 in dual matches on the year playing in conference play at number four (where he is a perfect 7-0 in Landmark action), while Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) is 14-7 overall and 5-0 in conference play for the year.

Susquehanna, who finished the year 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the Landmark, clinched a bid into the field after a thrilling 5-4 win over Drew on Apr. 22. The Landmark playoff berth is the first for the Riverhawks program since the inception of the Landmark Conference in 2007.

In the regular season, Goucher went to Selinsgrove and coasted past the Riverhawks, 9-0.
