Men’s Tennis Ends Record Breaking 2017-18 Season with Loss to Williams in NCAA Championship Second Round
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Goucher College men’s tennis team had their 2017-18 season come to an end on Saturday, as host and fourth-ranked Williams defeated the Gophers, 5-0, in the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships inside the Lansing Chapman Rink.

With the defeat, Goucher ends their record-breaking 2017-18 season with a 24-5 mark, while Williams advanced to Sunday's Regional Finals with the win, improving their record on the year to 14-4.
Play on the day began in doubles, where Goucher put up a fight in each match. However, the host Ephs took each match in the lineup by scores of 8-4 to go up 3-0 entering singles.
There, Williams collected straight set victories at number one and number four to get to five points on the day and clinch the win.
Despite dropping today's match, it was another banner season for head coach Brendan Kincaid and the Gophers in 2017-18.
With 24 victories, Goucher recorded not only the best season in program history but the best season in Landmark Conference history this season on their way to winning their third straight Landmark title last weekend.
Individually, senior Jack Hodges (London, England) completes his career as the 2017-18 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and a three-time All-Landmark pick in both singles and doubles. He ends his time at Goucher with 63 doubles wins (school and Landmark records for a career) and 62 singles victories (the second most in Goucher history).
Elsewhere, sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) collected 22 singles victories during the season to lead the team, and first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) won 18 times in singles on his way to earning All-Landmark Conference First Team honors (singles and doubles) and Landmark Rookie of the Year accolades.
