TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College men's tennis head coach Brendan Kincaid has announced his resignation. Kincaid, who has been at Goucher for the last six seasons, will take over as the head men's tennis coach at Haverford College in Haverford, Pa. next month.
"I would like to thank the athletic administration and the campus community for giving me my first opportunity to be a head coach in 2012," said Kincaid. "I have had the opportunity to work with some great people and I'm thankful for the relationships that I have made while at Goucher. Most importantly I want to thank the current and former players that I have had the privilege to coach. Their efforts and sacrifices were the reason that the men's tennis program enjoyed so much success.
"Goucher was a great place for me to grow over the past 6 years and I'm thankful for all the support throughout that time by countless faculty and staff."
Kincaid will leave Goucher as the men's tennis programs winningest head coach, as he guided the program to new heights over the last six seasons. Finishing with an 86-53 overall record at Goucher, Kincaid rebuilt a program that had won just nine matches in the previous three seasons before his arrival into a powerhouse in the Landmark Conference.
After winning 13 matches in his first two years at Goucher, Kincaid led the Gophers to four straight Landmark Conference Championship matches, while the Gophers have won 73 matches in that time frame.
In 2016, Kincaid led the Gophers to their first Landmark Conference Championship, their first win ever in the NCAA Tournament, and 20 victories, which was then the most wins in a season in Landmark Conference history.
After winning the Landmark Conference crown for the second straight season in 2017, Kincaid's Gophers made more history in 2018, going a program and Landmark best 24-5 overall, while winning the conference for the third straight season. Goucher also won again in the NCAA Tournament, defeating Messiah in the First Round, 5-0.
In his time at Goucher, Kincaid also mentored several record-setting student-athletes.
In all, Kincaid coached both of Goucher's all-time victory leaders in both singles and doubles for a career, along with a pair of Landmark Conference Player of the Year award winners. He also coached three Landmark Rookies of the Year, four Landmark Senior Scholar-Athletes, and a total of 32 All-Landmark Conference selections.
For his efforts, Kincaid also earned Landmark Conference Coach of the Year accolades in 2016, as well.
Kincaid arrived at Goucher in 2012 from a stint as an assistant at his alma mater Salisbury, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 2008. In three seasons as an assistant at Salisbury, he went on to earn ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2009-10, as he coached two Division III All-Americans, two nationally-ranked teams, and three nationally-ranked players.
As a student-athlete at Salisbury, Kincaid was a dual sport athlete playing football as well as tennis. As a football player, he was a two-time all-conference performer and was named 1st team all-region as a senior. On the tennis court, he was the program's all-time leader in singles and doubles wins at Salisbury when he graduated, accumulating a combined total of more than 100 victories during his career. He went on to earn First Team All-American honors as a senior in 2008, posting a 20-5 record that season in singles.
Goucher College will begin a national search to fill the men's tennis head coaching position in the near future.
