All-Goucher First Team Selection: Men’s Tennis’ Jack Hodges
After the first three All-Goucher First Team members that have been announced were all first-year student-athletes, a regular to the All-Goucher Team over the last few years is our fourth member of the First Team. That student-athlete is senior Jack Hodges (London, England) of the men's tennis team.
After the first three All-Goucher First Team members that have been announced were all first-year student-athletes, a regular to the All-Goucher Team over the last few years is our fourth member of the First Team. That student-athlete is senior Jack Hodges (London, England) of the men's tennis team.
For Hodges, the selection to the All-Goucher First Team for 2017-18 caps a stellar career. It also marks the third straight season in which Hodges has earned a spot on the All-Goucher team, as he was a First Team selection in 2016 and a Second Team pick last year.
In 2017-18, Hodges went on to become the second Goucher men's tennis player in program history to earn Landmark Conference Player of the Year accolades after registering a banner season for the Gophers, who finished the season with a record-breaking 24-5 overall mark, won their third straight Landmark Conference Championship, and notched a First Round win in the NCAA Championships for the second time in program history.
Overall, Hodges played at number one doubles and number two singles for the majority of the year, finishing with a 19-9 record in singles and a 16-11 mark with partner and first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.).
Playing in the number two spot on the lineup for most of the year in singles, Hodges posted a 14-6 record there on the year and went a perfect 7-0 in singles action during the conference season. Throughout the year, Hodges broke two Landmark Conference records: most career doubles victories (62) and most singles victories in conference play (26), as well.
For his efforts, Hodges was also named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team in both singles and doubles, as well, marking the third time he nabbed a spot on the All-Landmark Teams in his career.
Hodges also was named the Landmark Conference's Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Tennis late last month, as he recorded a 3.92 GPA at Goucher as a dual French and English major at the College. Hodges earned his bachelor's degree from Goucher last month.
Hodges is the fourth All-Goucher First Team selection to be announced to the public, joining teammate Ota and men's golf first-year student-athletes Roberto Mikse and Steph Lee.
On Friday, the fifth All-Goucher First Team selection and team captain will be announced, as well as the All-Goucher Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 academic year.
