2018 Goucher Men's Tennis Team Received Championship Rings (Photo Gallery)
BALTIMORE, Md. – The three-time Landmark Conference Goucher College men's tennis team received its championship rings during a halftime ceremony of the Gophers women's basketball game against Drew University on Saturday. The 2018 men's tennis team defeated Susquehanna University 5-0 in the conference semifinals on May 2 and then won its third-consecutive title with a 5-2 decision against the University of Scranton on May 5.
The Gophers then advanced to the NCAA Division III Second Round for the second time in program history after defeating Messiah College in the first round 5-0 on May 11. The squad's historic season ended with a 5-0 loss against Williams College on May 12.
Goucher finished the year with a 24-5 record, notching a program-record and Landmark Conference record 24 victories.
The 2018 championship team was comprised of 2018 Goucher graduates Jake Brazeau, Josh Goldberg, Landmark Conference Player of the Year and first-team singles/doubles selection Jack Hodges and Britton Shortle. Current Gopher seniors Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School), juniors Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion), All-Landmark Conference second-team singles honoree Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Nova Porg) and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) and sophomore Tetsuya Ota(Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep), the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and first-team singles/doubles selection, all return to the team this season looking to win the program's fourth-straight league crown under first-year head coach Eric Spangler while Daniel Kim was also a member of the team last season.
