Goucher Men's Tennis Takes Rematch Of Last Year's Landmark Conference Championships Against Scranton
Baltimore, Md. – Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion) served Goucher College the win against the University of Scranton by producing the fifth victory for the team in a 7-2 decision in Landmark Conference men's tennis action on Sunday.
The Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles and Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) took care of business at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 for a four-point lead.
"I'm proud of how our guys are competing following the spring break success and raising the bar in our conference play," said head coach Eric Spangler. "There is still a lot of work for us to do."
The Royals came back to win the next two matches to trim the margin to 4-2. Dumas, the current Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, then clinched the victory for the team for the second-straight match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) won at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) gutted out a 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3 win to complete a 7-2 victory.
Ota and Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nova Porg) won at No. 1 doubles 8-3 and Mullinix and Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) took an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles. Dumas and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Herman lost at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1 and Adebamgbe fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Goucher, who entered the Oracle/ITA Division III Men's Atlantic South Region Rankings at No. 17 as of Thursday, returns to action on Saturday at Elizabethtown. Match time is 1 p.m.
