Goucher Men's Tennis Keeps Cardinals From Taking Flight In Nation's Capital
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goucher College defeats Catholic University 9-0 in Landmark Conference men's tennis action on Wednesday.
Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic / Gymnazium Nova Porg) won at No. 1 doubles 8-1 while Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) and Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) earned the win at No.2 doubles in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6). Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) and Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Ota downed the Landmark Conference Player of the Week in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion) moved into the No. 2 singles spot for a 6-1, 6-1 while Adebamgbe earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles. Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-3 and Diehl took care of No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0 while Meekins completed the 9-0 win with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Dumas gave up a game in a set for the first time in seven sets.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday at home against Susquehanna University. Match time is 1 p.m. The Gophers will honor seniors Diehl and Meekins prior to the match.
