Goucher Men's Tennis And Tetsuya Ota Both Finish Season Ranked In The Oracle/ITA Division III Atlantic South Region Rankings
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College men's tennis finished the season ranked No. 14 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Atlantic South Region Men's Rankings. In addition, sophomore Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) was ranked No. 22 in singles play in the Atlantic South Region.
The Gophers men's tennis team entered the rankings at No. 17 on March 28 and then moved up to the No. 14 spot for the April 11 poll and remained in that position for the final two polls on April 25 and May 30. Goucher finished 18-6 overall and 6-0 in Landmark Conference action on its way to its fourth-consecutive conference championship and trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The squad won 16 of its last 19 matches including going 5-0 in between the March 28 and April 11 polls that saw the Gophers move up three spots for the final three polls.
Ota made his appearance in the singles ranking in the final ranking on May 30 with his No. 22 ranking. Ota went 14-7 on the year and only lost eight games in seven matches in league play at No. 1 singles this season to be named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and a spot on the all-conference first team in singles. The sophomore won nine-straight matches from March 19 to April 20 including a win against the No. 1 singles for No. 29 College of New Jersey. Ota also helped put the Gophers on the brink of winning its Landmark Conference semifinals match against Susquehanna after recording the team's fourth win on the afternoon.
