Dumas Receives Third Career Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week Recognition
BALTIMORE, Md. – Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion), a member of the Goucher College men's tennis team, becomes the third player on the team to be named Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week in 2019-20. Dumas earned the honor for the week of March 2-8 to garner the award for the third time in his four-year career and for the third-straight season.
Where are the New Kids On The Block to sing "Right Stuff" because Dumas found the right stuff in the final two sets against Thomas Wright of the nationally-ranked College of New Jersey. Dumas lost the first set 6-1, but then recovered to earn a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third set where the senior edged the Lions No. 3 player ,11-9.
Dumas, who is now 3-1 on the year, has moved into a tie with Tim Hannigan (1997-01) for fourth place on the program's all-time career singles win list with 59 victories.
Dumas joins teammates Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) and Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) as winners of the Landmark Conference top player of the week award. Ota, who has bestowed the honor six times in his career, earned the recognition for the week of September 16-22, 2019 and February 17-23, 2020 while Kane took home the award for the week of September 30-Octover 6, 2020.
It is the third time Dumas has received the honor after also garnering the recognition for the weeks of March 5-11, 2018 and March 18-24, 2019.
Goucher returns to action on Sunday in Florida against St. Lawrence.
